Q. How do I access and borrow print books?

Answer

Search for the book(s) on the library website http://library.aucegypt.edu and take note of the call number (a unique code that identifies each book and item in the library). It starts with a letter and looks like this:

BF1591 .R54 2020     (as per the Library of Congress Classification).

Make sure its status is "CHECK SELF" which means it should be available on the bookshelf. Some books are labelled as "LIB USE ONLY" which means it cannot be borrowed. For other locations listed, such as "SPCL" or "University Archives", these are on the third floor of the library at the Rare Books and Special Collections Library.

If the location on the website states "MAIN LIBRARY", then head to the bookshelves upstairs to grab the book(s) and then you may borrow them using your AUC ID via the self-checkout machines on each floor OR proceed to the Circulation Desk on the Plaza floor. If you need help with borrowing books, please ask at the Circulation Desk.

Location of Main Library Books:

Call numbers from A to HE are on the first floor of the library.

Call numbers from HF to Z are on the second floor.

If you need help with searching for books or other resources, please ask at the Help Desk.

Please note that currently borrowing is not available for alumni as all of our library memberships remain suspended.
